What is Aarhus?

Aarhus or Århus is the second-largest city in Denmark, after Copenhagen. However, it’s the principal port of Denmark, situated on the east side of the peninsula of Jutland (the main land). This makes it easier to travel to Germany, for example, as one does not need to take a ferry.

Aarhus is home to dozens of theatres, underground music and festivals, museums and is running for Cultural Capital 2017.This will involve “rethinking” various spheres:
>> Addressing the climate and energy challenge, with the wind energy company Vestas building more wind turbines.
>> Building a new multimedia library in the harbour: kicking new life into the harbour and also integrating new knowledge.
>> Making space for more sports halls, community centres, schools, theatres and museums, with a total of 12 new cultural centres in the region.

Any leisure
Known as “Denmark’s youngest city” or “the world’s biggest small city,” Aarhus has a lot to offer: cultural festivals, cozy coffee-shops, friendly pubs and a wide variety of restaurants (Danish Argentinian/ Japanese/ Mexican/ French/ Greek).

Watch our YGWA Prezi presentation we gave at the Copenhagen Conference in 2011:

Any weather
In warm weather, you can enjoy clean beaches and beautiful forests. Be prepared to walk amongst birdlife and deers.
In chilly weather, come enjoy the Christmas market and various ice-skating rinks.

Any walk
Come enjoy a walk through history at the Moesgård Museum or a walk through time at the Den Gamle By (The Old Town) or a walk amongst world-class art at the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum.

Visit Aarhus! Any day. Any time of year!
