Denmark… an unforgettable journey

Am pornit la drum spre o provocare pe care am numit-o „a face masterul în afară”. O experiență care să îmi schimbe viața.
Danemarca…țară scumpă
Aarhusul este un oraș mic, plin de studenți. Cererea este mult mai mare decât oferta. Așadar, toata lumea va avea grijă să îți repete cât de greu e să îți găsești cazare sau job. A fost greu, dar nu imposibil. Eu am început prin a-mi construi un CV pe stil danez și ducându-mă la tot felul de evenimente organizate de Career Center-ul facultății. Am organizat și eu mai multe întâlniri la care veneau uneori 7-8 persoane, alteori 50. Networking-ul m-a ajutat să îmi găsesc cazare și apoi un student job part-time, plătit mai decât decât salariul părinților după 30 de ani de vechime.
Danezii…oameni reci
Networkingul m-a ajutat să găsesc acei oameni minunați de la care să învăț, pe alții cu care să mă distrezi, alții cărora să mă destăinui și tot așa. Rezultatul e că, în 5 luni, am cunoscut peste 200 de persoane, dintre care pe vreo 50 îi văd constant pe la petreceri, cu 10-20 mă întâlnesc constant prin școală la un pahar de vorbă și 5-6 prieteni apropiați. De fapt, cei mai importanți sunt colegii de apartament, 2 nemți și o poloneză, cu care am fost foarte norocoasa! Desigur, majoritatea sunt internaționali sau români, însă lucrurile încep să se miște și cu danezii. Este nevoie de multă răbdare, empatie și perseverență.
Vremea
Când am ajuns în Aarhus în august, am avut senzația că e o stațiune de munte. Este un oraș deluros, care este înconjurat de păduri. Ai și mare și un lac superb. Case, simple, îmbrăcate în cărămidă. Ferestre imense. Fără garduri. Fără perdele. Totul în jur era verde…până să vină întunericul, ploile, vântul și, apoi, frigul și zăpada. În astfel de condiții, a-ți face prieteni apropiați aproape de tine este cea mai buna soluție.
E greu cu învățatul acolo!
Sistemul danez de învățământ este grozav pentru că te încurajează să critici cu argumente teoria, să reflectezi cum o poți pune în practică, să organizezi study-groupuri suplimentare cu colegii. Profesorii îți oferă feedback și sprijin, însă inițiativa și efortul trebuie să vină de la tine. Notele mari se dau cu greu, însă atunci când ajungi să iei un 12 (nota maximă) știi că ce ai învățat te va ajuta mai departe! Been there, done that!
Concluzia mea: Îndrăznește. Fă o schimbare în viața ta și învață de la cei mai buni!

Denmark…expensive country
Aarhus is a small city, full of students. The demand is much higher than the offer. So, everyone will repeat you how hard it is to find accommodation or a job. It was hard, but not impossible. I started by building a CV on the Danish style and by attending all kinds of events organized by the Career Centre of the university. I organised myself several meetings where sometimes 7-8 people came and sometimes 50. Networking helped me find a room to rent and a part-time student job, paid better than the salary of my parents after 30 years of experience.
Danes…cold people
Networking also helped me find those wonderful people to learn from, those to party with, those to confess to and so on. The result is that, during 5 months, I met over 200 people. Around 50 of them I constantly meet at parties. With 10-20 of them I constantly meet at school at a glass of talk and 5-6 are closed friends. In fact, the most important are my flatmates, 2 Germans and a Polish girl, the best I could get! Of course, the majority of the people I know are internationals or Romanians, but things are starting to move forward with Danes as well. One definitely needs a lot of patience, empathy and perseverance with them!
The weather
When I arrived in Aarhus in August, I had the feeling that it is a mountain resort. It is a hilly city, surrounded by forests. And you have sea and a marvelous lake. The houses are simple, dressed with bricks. Huge windows. No fences. No curtains. Everything around was green…until the darkness, the rains, the wind and, then, the cold and the snow came. Under these circumstances, making close friends close to you is the best solution.
It’s hard to study there
The Danish educational system is great because it encourages you to criticize the theory with arguments, to reflect on how to put it in practice, to organize extra study-groups with your colleagues. Teachers offer you feedback and support, but the initiative and the effort must come from you. High grades are hard to obtain, but when you reach the level of a 12 (the maximum grade) you do know that what you have learnt, will help you in the future! Been there, done that!
My conclusion: Dare! Make a change in your life and learn from the best!
