Impressions

“But inspiration? That’s when you come home from abroad and are asked: Well, have you found inspiration?  Fortunately, you haven’t. But the impressions sink in, of course, and may emerge later: None of us has invented the house; that was done many thousands of years ago.” Arne Jacobsen

Here are our first impressions of Aarhus and how they may have changed:

Anca: “At first, I thought it was going be so easy to meet Danes and find a job because everybody speaks English, but unfortunately it’s not like that.”

Daniel: “It’s not as cold as expected. Danish flags everywhere!”

Mavi: “I had the impression that it would be similar to Norway, and in a sense it is: you can define this place as green, with water everywhere! I did not expect as many students: there are a lot of social activities you can do. Danish people are also very helpful and friendly!”

Mihail: ”Honestly, my first impression from Aarhus when I got here was: ‘Wow, this city is small.’ I just spent 15 minutes walking around and I had already crossed the center. Nevertheless, the city is clean and well-organized and I can do my daily routine much faster.”

Mohit: “Snow City and now it has changed to… snow white cozy city.”

Sam: “My first impressions of Denmark can be described in several words: clean, peaceful, happy, innovative, relaxing. I think, up to now, my impression on Denmark remains the same.”

Sarkis: “I arrived in winter, on Christmas Day. I had never experienced Christmas before. Everything was so new, beautiful with all the decorations, and especially EVERYTHING WAS SO CLEAN. In South America, streets are not this clean.”

Vanessa: “They have changed in a good way. At first I kept comparing the Aarhusian chilly, cloudy weather to sunny South Africa. Bad idea. Aarhus has its own magic to offer: in cozy coffee-shops, restaurants and friendly pubs.”

Vitaly: “I was overwhelmed by how well the Danes dress, even without an occasion. It was good motivation to invest into updating my wardrobe!”

Are Danish people the happiest?
